It's always delightful finding out a Melbourne secret and Project Spork is one such secret I felt fortunate to be let in on. The first offering from the Project Spork team was a pop-up dining experience wrapped in mystery and frivolity. We were asked to meet in a set location in our finery, only to be lead down alley ways by well dressed wait staff and greeted by a string quartet tucked into the empty space.

They then adorned us with various hats including tiger masks and gave out jars of cocktails whilst we chatted and murmured about what was to come.

After enough time to admire the band, we were told the rules of engagement and lead into a beautifully set up art gallery then divided off into hat types, we were encouraged to nibble and make friends with our new table mates. What I found wonderful about this is the ease in which Project Spork had perfectly achieved the balance between intimate yet communal, formal yet informal and classy yet quirky.

The three course meal itself was delicious (with vegetarian options) and placed on the table in a family dinner style, with light dinner games creating that feeling of comfortable enjoyment. The chef and wait staff all intermingled with the guests making sure we were well fed with topped glasses of champagne, lovely wines and an after dinner shot or two.

We were all then invited to another location to best our new friends in ping pong games and continue on the amiable feelings that you achieve from amazing food, a well stocked cellar, a good mystery and a sense of affinity. Lets hope they do another event very soon.
