There are very few places, in my opinion, to rival the breathtaking beauty of the Port Noarlunga beach, reef and jetty. If you are lucky to visit at low tide, you will be treated to views of the amazing Noarlunga Reef, one of the last places that one can find the leafy sea-dragon, that strange and elusive animal. For scuba divers and snorkellers, this is an aquatic wonderland.
Stroll along the jetty and you'll meet eager fishermen/women, all hoping to catch some snapper or salmon for the evening meal. You may even see little kids with their scaled-down rods, patiently waiting for the fish to bite. At the end of the jetty, listen to the roar and swish of the waves as they break over the reef.
Port Noarlunga is the site of one of the ancient resting places of the ancestral elder of the Kaurna people, Tjilbruke, who once walked along the beach in The Dreamtime. A stone monument on the cliff top commemorates the history of this beautiful scenic beach.
Port Noarlunga has won awards as Australia's cleanest beach. It is a safe swimming beach, with shade provided by the wooden jetty, and firm white sand for walks and games. Watersports are well catered-for and classes are run by qualified lifesavers and professionals.
The
Port Noarlunga Surf Lifesaving Clubroom provides pub-style meals in a dining room overlooking the magnificent views. The premises can be hired for functions, has a fabulous balcony and even a dance floor. The recently completed upgrade of the foreshore provides ample seating and free car parking. The shaded verandah on the Esplanade could be utilised as a venue for weddings with the beach as a backdrop. A virtual photographer's paradise!
There are plenty of cafes in the area, so what are you waiting for? Come down South and fall in love - I did!
