The Samford Valley Hotel is another fantastic venue that has taken on the Texas Holdem Poker craze.

In 1906, the first hotel to operate in Samford was erected on the C.S.I.R.O site on Dayboro Road. The hotel was destroyed by fire and rebuilt around 1915 and had various names like Samford Hotel, Railway Hotel or O'Hara's Hotel over the years.

With the coming of the railway in 1918, Samford saw unprecedented growth with businesses establishing themselves along Main Street. The same year, James O'Hara purchased the Bake House shop and then moved the hotel by Bullock Dray in 3 sections to its current location. To get the hotel across the bridge over the Samford Creek, all of the uprights on the bridge had to be cut off level with the railings giving enough clearance for all the sections.

In 1956-1957 after further development the hotel became known as the Golden Valley.

The hotel now offers a fantastic outdoor/indoor bistro, with some of the best looking cuts of meat waiting to be cooked up. The menu is very diverse allowing most tastes to be catered for, including, hot and cold buffet, kids meals, pizza and salads.

Catering is also available for functions and parties. Gaming room and sports bar on site also.

The poker is played here on a Thursday night, and is hosted by the Australian Poker League ( APL ).

6:00pm Registration for tournament start at 7:00pm.

The people are friendly, and Team All-In and myself feel very welcome.

Four tables of players sat down to compete for the prizes and title.
By 9:30pm, the final table was decided with both Team All-In players (which included myself) were sitting at it.

At 9:55pm there were only two players left.

Rowan and Lowrie were sat face to face, staring at each others chips, planning on how they were going to take them.

10:10pm Lowrie makes a move and raises the pot and Rowen calls him.

The Flop shows Qs 4c Jc. Lowrie shoves all his chips into the middle, Rowan thinks for a moment and announces call.

Lowrie shows 9c 5c, Rowen reveals Kc 10c. the turn Js river 6h giving the win to Rowan with King High.

Great game, great location.
