Every day, thousands of commuters go through Box Hill Central to catch a train, bus or tram into town. The real Platform 3 at Box Hill Railway Station is where a huge percentage of these commuters go to catch trains to works but on the other end of Box Hill Central, a second Platform 3 is there purely for those heading towards the eating and drinking train.

Open from morning to 8pm (10pm on Thursdays through to Fridays), Platform 3 is an all-day venue that offers many versatile dining options. You can come in for a quick coffee in the morning (espresso or cold drip, take your pick), a mouth-watering brunch during the day with your friends or for after-work drinks with colleagues before heading home. To encourage locals to drop in after work, Platform 3 offers daily specials to cater to Box Hill's many locals but of course, visitors are more than welcome too. Monday is Ladies night (selected mains and a glass of house wine is $20 from 5pm) while $15 chicken parmas with chips and salad are offered every Wednesday (normally $19). Live music is played every Tuesday from 6pm while Happy Hour runs from 5 to 7pm every Tuesday, Friday and Sunday, offering a rotation of specials each week.

As for standard a la carte options? Platform 3 definitely does not do standard – which is definitely a great thing. Platform 3's menu comprises of modern Australian dishes that we all know and love – but with unique twists that are sure to delight. Their eggs benedict, for example, comes with a black croissant that is made out of charcoal (yes, charcoal!). Meanwhile, their Purple Stack hotcakes, said to be one of their best selling items, comes with a mouth-watering berry compote, gingerbread crumbs, honeycomb and lavender ice cream. Their tapas menu, available after 4pm, is also full of surprises such as a whole chicken wing stuffed with Kurobuta pork, the perfect snack to go with your Happy Hour beer. The classics such as crispy potato wedges and nachos with housemade guacamole are also available for those wanting something more simple.
