You may not be aware, but June is International Hip Dysplasia / Healthy Hips Awareness Month. To bring awareness to this condition, which affects babies and small children, Pinky McKay will conduct one of her special Baby Sleep Seminars to raise awareness and funds for Healthy Hips Australia.

Hip dysplasia, otherwise known as 'Clicky Hips', is a common condition in small children, which occurs when the ball and socket of the hip do not fit together in their 'normal' position. Sometimes this is due to abnormal development and/or lack of growth of the hip joint.

If early detection and treatment is delayed beyond the age of 2, a child with hip dysplasia can lead to painful hips, waddling walking and a decrease in strength. If such a condition is not treated at all, the condition can lead to osteoarthritis and hip deformities can seriously affect development in young adults.

Although not much can be done to prevent hip dysplasia, early treatment and detection is vital. That is why Australian Mum Sarah Twomey, set up a national charity called Healthy Hips Australia, with a sole purpose to support mums of children with hip dysplasia and raise awareness for the condition.

Sarah's first born child, Eve, was diagnosed with developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) at just 3 weeks of age. Following that, Eve spent 10 months, 23-hours a day, in a full body harness followed by a hip brace. Sarah, therefore, understands the difficulties parents faced when their children are presented with the condition.

This June, best-selling Author and baby sleep consultant Pinky McKay has jumped on-board with Healthy Hips Australia. Pinky McKay will present her Baby Sleep Seminar over a morning tea in Ashburton. Alongside Pinky McKay, Sarah will also discuss the risk factors and potential signs of hip dysplasia.

Tickets to the seminar are available HERE . Babies are most welcome.
