is a project of the Adelaide City Council, inviting the public to help shape the future development of Adelaide. The date 2040 is significant because it is the 200th anniversary of local governance in Adelaide.

Following on from the successful Picture Adelaide 2011 community engagement project, invites the public to submit 1,000 stories telling why they love the City of Adelaide. The stories should describe your favourite place in Adelaide, include a photo or video to help illustrate the story and need to be lodged before September 19.

All photo entrants will be rewarded with their name in lights on the contributors wall. If you share your story on social media, you'll also be invited to an exclusive Story Slam event, held in a secret location. Video story entrants will be invited as one of the time capsule contributors. There are additional prizes in thee categories (including the Victoria Square redevelopment) for reaching specific group targets.

The stories collected from project will be used to guide the development of a new City Vision, and also used in other planning activities by the Adelaide City Council to prioritise future development.

At time of writing there are already around 300 stories which make fascinating reading on the website. Some are quite personal - including one from a person who found that he lived in a brothel , others highlight the many attractions around the city, the parklands and North Adelaide. From yabbies in Rymill Park to the food wonderland that is the Adelaide Central Market, city walks , Rundle Mall, Adelaide Oval and the banks of the River Torrens. The Botanic Gardens and the Japanese themed Himeji Gardens in the south parklands each have multiple nominations, but a look at the map of submissions shows that they originate all around the city.

So where is your favourite place in Adelaide? Many people have chosen somewhere in our parklands, but a surprising number have opted for somewhere in the shopping precincts and the Victoria Square redevelopment too. You haven't got much longer to have your say, so head over to the website and tell your story.

If you're a Twitter user, you can tell your story there with the hashtag #ADL2040.
