Anyone else noticed the latest craze of serving food and beverage items in jars? You there, sipping an iced coffee out of a Mason jar with a striped paper straw - you know what I'm talking about.

As much as I cringe when I see brand new "vintage" jars being sold at Wheel and Barrow, even I admit things are more fun when eaten out of jars.

Like the tasty, crunchy granola ($11.90) from at Camp Hill:

While I daintily ate out of my cute jar, my dining partner was busy destroying the most epic breakfast plate known to man:

That's Picnic's Big Breakfast ($16.90) - fried chicken, eggs, ham hock baked beans, pan fried kale, and rye toast. Is fried chicken acceptable before 9am? I say yes. Paula Deen says yes.

Picnic also dishes out lunch and very good coffees, all with friendly service in a homely (but trendy - let's not forget the jars) atmosphere.

Now, I wonder if takeaway fried chicken in jars have a future...
