If you are an ice-cream fan, be sure to check out at Salt Village, Kingscliff. They have a mouthwatering selection of gelato, including some funky flavours such as Zabajone Custard or Lychee Sorbet as well as the traditional favourites. We were staying nearby for a few days and the flavour selection changed every day - you have a good excuse to go back again and again.

There are three size options. A small cup or cone (one scoop) costs $4, medium (two scoops) is $6 and large (3 scoops) will set you back $8. You could also pick up a take home box. A half litre cost $13 whilst a full litre is $20. It is expensive, but tastes amazing.

There's more than just gelato, with milkshakes and smoothies as well as a tempting selection of cakes and slices. I liked the look of the pecan pie. If you're looking for a caffeine fix, they also serve Vittoria coffee .

There are some tables and chairs on the terrace outside to enjoy your selection. Alternatively you could carry it down to the beautiful Salt surf beach, just a few minutes walk away. However, the gelato is so good I don't think I could make it there without finishing it on the way.

Piccolo is open from 10am Monday to Friday and from 9am at the weekends. It's cash only. Check out their Facebook page for more info.
