Learn to Dance the Swing - No Partner Needed
Now you can come and learn the vintage 1930's swing dance, the Lindy Hop, every Thursday in Fremantle!

These classes will focus on the authentic Lindy Hop style of the 1930's, delivered in a fun and friendly environment. Here is an interesting video on some of the dances at the Perth Swing Dance Academy, and this is for the younger members:

And this is a more sedate demonstration:

Dates for Fremantle are as follows:

20 August, 2017
17 September
15 October
12 November
3 December (3 week course)

Even if you have never danced before, and through to professional dancers of other styles, these have all been taught by the Perth Swing Dance Academy, so they understand that everyone learns at a different rate!

Great fun for beginners!

There is a great choice of areas and levels to chose from - Swing it out now at one of their locations across Perth that teach weekly beginners swing classes.

You can casually drop into any beginner class, and the best thing is, you don't need a partner or previous dance experience!

The weekly Lindy Hop classes run at the following places and times:

Mondays in Como at "The Como" – 241 Canning Highway
Tuesdays in Vic Park at "The Victoria Park Leisurelife Centre" – Corner Kent & Gloucester Streets
Thursdays in Fremantle at "The Fremantle Bowling Club" – 6 Ellen St, Fremantle

SO HOW DO CLASSES WORK?
All their classes are drop-in, so you can start whenever you want to! However, they have been planned to work well in a sequence, so if you attend several weeks in a row, you progress will tend to be even faster!

Also, if you book for 4 weeks, you will save some money!

COST
The drop in rate is $15 per class ($10 in Como) BUT they recommend booking in a 4 week block for just $50 ($30 in Como).

TIMES
Beginners classes run from 7 pm to 8 pm

SWING DANCE SOCIALS IN PERTH
Once you have had a few classes, you can join in on some of the best social dancing opportunities for swing dancers, and these are held at the following places:

CATS' CORNER AT THE COMO
This is a weekly social dance, running every Monday night at The Como (241 Canning Hwy).

The social starts at 7:45 pm but there is also the drop in class, at 7 pm.

Monday nights is also the Como's Retro Burger night and they'll be putting on some drink specials for this Event, so come down, grab a bite, a drink, and swing the night away!

The social is FREE (drop in class at 7 pm is $10)
Note: Cats' Corner does not run on public holidays.

SATURDAY NIGHT HOP
There is also a monthly Saturday Night Hop dance party, run on the last Saturday of the month.

Here, there are Perth's best swing DJ's, playing the tunes of that era!

The Saturday night hops are currently held at the Como Hotel but occasionally move to special locations, so check their website or Facebook page for more updated info!

REGULAR PERTH GIGS
The Mustang Bar:
Friday nights at the Mustang bar has been a favourite with Perth dancers for a long time.

With live music and free entry every Friday from 7 pm to 9:30 pm, the regular bands include Adam Hall and the Velvet Playboys, Harry Deluxe and The Oz Big Band so you're practically guaranteed a great night even if you just stop by to watch the dancing and listen to some great tunes.

The Railway Hotel:
For some great tunes on a Saturday afternoon, go to the Railway Hotel in Fremantle and listen to the Corner House Jazz Band, where the music can get a little fast, but they are AMAZING!

PRIVATE LESSONS
The Perth Swing Dance Society also offer private lessons for those who want a one on one lesson.

Private lessons are a great way to learn swing dancing, whether it be because you can't make it to classes, or you want to complement your dance classes. In fact, private lessons are the best way and sometimes the only way to really master a move or a particular skill.

It is a good idea even if you come to weekly classes to have a few private lessons to work on social leading and, of course, the Swing Out.

They offer competitive prices, so if you are interested in these, just get in contact with them at info@perthswingdanceacademy.com or call 0402 556 956.

SWING DANCE PERFORMANCES
Perth Swing Dance Academy also offer exciting and energetic Lindy Hop or authentic Charleston floor shows in full vintage wear.

The SDA Performance Troupe are a group of talented dancers who love to do their "thing" on the dance floor! They are available for any type of show including corporate events and private functions.

Say you have a Great Gatsby theme for example, the performance team are perfect for the occasion with their flapper dresses and specialised Charleston dancing!

These performances usually between 5 and 10 minutes and involve performing some exciting and exuberant choreographed routines.

ABOUT THE PERTH SWING DANCE SOCIETY
The Perth Swing Dance Society is a non-profit group dedicated to the social side of swing dancing in Perth. This includes the Charleston, as well as other swing dances from the 20's, 30's, and 40's.

Fun,fun,fun
Have fun while you are learning!

They are a dance school focusing on swing dancing, vintage fashion, jazz music, and jazz history.

Their vision is to "revive and share the joy of vintage dancing and recreate the suave sophistication of the fashion".

Their classes not only teach you how to dance but also teach you information about the history of swing dancing; the music and musicians of that era; the styles and fashion; the current worldwide swing dancing community, and any other interesting bits of information about that age.

A real 40's photo!

Dancing the Lindy Hop is an amazing experience for everyone who learns this dance, and at this Academy they believe that the Lindy Hop went hand in hand with the big events of the time and therefore people learning these dances should have some understanding of the culture that Lindy developed in.

You can see a list, and details of the teachers here.
