Over a two week period from 16th July through to 31st July,
Peaks to Points Festival has a terrific line-up of events organised by various groups for all to enjoy. These events cover a wide range of topics from guided walks, workshops, seminars, dinners, spotting wildlife, history talks, planting trees, monitoring seagrass in Moreton Bay, tours to Greenbank Military training area, sewage treatment plants and so on. A more in depth reference of the events can be read on their website, however below is a brief overview of the events and the dates allotted to them.
16 July 2016
•
Can you spot a Platypus , which is being held at various sites along Oxley Creek. This is something you would not often get the chance to partake in and although the morning is an early start, I still think it would be lots of fun for everyone.

Travel back in time on a history work by local historian Beryl Roberts. This is conducted in conjunction with a walk around Acacia Ridge where you will see that many of the post-war buildings still stand today.
• Witness the restoration of
Pennywort Creek , where you can join members of the Pennywort Creek Bushcare Group for a morning of planting and a guided walk along Pennywort Creek.

Morning seminar on why
Moreton Bay is such a special part of our waterways. This event covers half a day and is being held at Redlands
IndigiScapes Centre . It will also be followed by a seagrass monitoring activity and a guided walk to
King Island.

• Join
Oxley Creek Catchment Association for a walking tour Pennywort Creek Bushcare,
Cliveden Avenue Reserve and Oxley Golf Complex.
• Take a tour behind the
Greenbank Military Training Area . Cost for this tour is $20.00 per person.
19 July 2016
• Guided walk through
Pooh Corner which will include morning tea.
20 July 2016
• Bus tour to Queensland Urban Utilities
Oxley Sewage Treatment Plant to learn what happens when you flush your toilet. This tour is being held at a cost of $15.00 per person.
• Five kilometre guided walk in
Toohey Forest with local historian Beryl Roberts.
23 July 2016
• Guided walk to find the best birding spots in Brisbane's
Oxley Creek Common.
• Learn from Griffith Mates Bushcare and Fox Gully Bushcare volunteers how to
remove lantana from habitat at the Mount Gravatt Outlook Reserve.
• Family orientated interactive morning exploring
Karawatha Forest. There will be talks from local experts about the native animals and plants within the forest as well as a talk from members of the
Butterfly and Other Invertebrates Club .
• Visit the
St John's Oxley Community Men's Shed while enjoying a morning tea. This display will showcase the clubs wares and sale of some items made by members.
• Picnic in the Park at
Strickland Terrace Park . Events on the day will include kite flying which is a great activity for the whole family.
• 20th Anniversary Dinner of the
Oxley Creek Catchment Association. There will be a charge of $20.00 per person to attend.
24 July 2016
• An easy one hour walk around
Whites Hill Reserve guided by members of the Whites Hill – Pine Mountain Community Group.
•
National Plant a Tree Day at Ironport Creek near Ipswich.
•
Pooh Corner Community Walk.
26 July 2016
• Scenic guided walk at
White Rock , north of the Flinders Peak Complex.

Bus tour to Brisbane City Council's world class landfill site at Rochedale. The cost of the tour is $15.00 per person.
28 July 2016

Birds Queensland Guide will take attendees on the
Gamlen Circuit , excellent for the avid birdwatcher.
• Gold coin donation
seminar at Griffith University EcoCentre on the subject of plastic pollution in SE Queensland's waterways and bays.
29 July 2016
• Free event with members of the
Oxley Creek Catchment Association and check out their nature plant nursery and garden.
30 July 2016
• Learn more about assisting the
Black Swamp Bushcare Group eliminate the noxious groundcover Singapore Daisy at a small patch of bushland in Cleveland.
• Join
Benarrawa Bushcare Group restore riparian habitat along the Oxley Creek at Benarrawa Park Corinda.
• Free workshop on how to create your
home garden pond with horticulturalist Noel Burdette.

Birdwatching at Greenwood Lakes.
•
National Plant a Tree Day in Logan at Greenwood Lakes.
• Join members of the
Mount Gravatt Environment Group planning a tree at Mount Gravatt Outlook Reserve.
