Paw-some School Holiday Program - Seeing Eye Dogs Australia (SEDA)
Here's something a little different for the school holidays.
Seeing Eye Dogs Australia (SEDA) at
17 Barrett Street, Kensington are running a
program in the 'Auditorium' that's best suited to children aged between 5 and 10 years of age, though it's not limited to these ages. Young-uns of all ages are welcome, and if they're 3 years or younger, they can come along free of charge. However, they won't be able to participate in the program and must be supervised.
Cost is $40 per child (please note that adult supervision is required for each child or group of children booked into the program at no charge). Bookings are essential and to be made online.
CLICK HERE for bookings. If you encounter any problems with bookings, call 1800 037 773 for assistance.
Please note, due to limited places, walk-ins on the day are unable to participate. There is also no refund for cancellations due to limited resources. Dates and times are as follows.
Time:
10am to 12pm on the following dates in
2016.
Friday the 8th of January
Monday the 11th of January
Wednesday the 13th of January
Friday the 15th of January
Monday the 18th of January
Wednesday the 20th of January
Friday the 22nd of January and
Monday the 25th of January
This program is the paw-fect way to entertain while educating. The activities that educate put the kids into the shoes of someone who is blind or vision impaired, which gives them an insight into some of the challenges faced. There's also a lot of fun activities like making dog biscuits which can be taken home for their own special four legged friend. There's nothing like enjoying big cuddles with these paw-some puppies and watching them play in their 'Puppy Play Centre', which the kids will be able to do. Then there's the guided tour, while completing their very own activity book. The book has additional activities which will keep the kiddies entertained during the rest of the school holidays.
Your support for this program would be fantastic as all funds raised go towards training the dogs to become seeing-eye-dogs who make such a difference in the lives of those who need and rely on them. You'll be helping to provide someone with the gift of independence.
It may surprise you to know that it takes a total of
$35,000 and up to 2 years to raise and train a seeing eye dog. For those of you who are unable to attend for whatever reason; you can still help in many ways. You can give a straight out
donation ; give a
'gift' donation ; help
fundraise ; or make a
bequest .
There are also other fun ways you can be involved, through volunteering. You can become a
puppy carer . Find out more
HERE , and if it suits, fill out an
online application . You can also become a
temporary dog carer ; a
breeder carer ;
sponsor a pup;
name a pup by sponsoring it fully for the cost of raising it; buy some
merchandise (there are a few Christmas card packs suitable for this festive season); or buy some
lottery tickets . At just $2.50 a ticket (sold in multiples) and the possibility of winning the first prize total prize value of $45,000, take a chance. You're still in time as major prizes will only be drawn on the 21st of December.
To purchase tickets or for more information, call the Lottery Hotline on 1800 670 917. If you need more convincing about what a difference you can make in someone's life, have a read about the kind of impact you would make as someones
Guardian Angel .
