Hidden away in a small backroom in the Portland Hotel, some of the finest absurdist comedy Melbourne has seen in quite some time has been taking place.

The Locker Room, no larger than most peoples lounge-room was packed with chairs and about roughly a metre of stage area. The smell of glycerine still lingered in the air, and the walls are an unforgiving shade of battle ship grey. These small, unassuming surrounds set the scene for a most unpredictable night of laughs.

In all honesty, I had never seen any of Jared Jekyll and Cameron James' comedy before, but the line snaking down the stairs and out of the door hinted at the potential that lay ahead.

What was greatly obvious to all was that word of mouth about this immensely underrated show had spread, as the duo played to a sold out room of 30 (The Locker Room's capacity) with those without pre-ordered tickets being turned away at the door.

Their show, 'Paradise' plays out like a cross between The Mighty Boosh and the class clowns in your year 10 science class.

Centring around the pair, on the upswing in recovering from their mime addiction, get booked for the Paradise Island Comedy Festival by the elusive Dr Death. The audience was taken on an oft-times bizarre journey of intrigue, voodoo warriors and adventure. The hilarious and bizarre are intricately intertwined, making for a most enthralling and engaging show, with the audience dragged into the fray at every turn.

This show is really worthy of a much bigger room and much higher profile. These guys are destined for big things, so keep an eye on them as they'll no doubt become Australia's next favourite comedy duo.
'Paradise' is in it's last week, so make sure you book your tickets quick, as if last night was anything to go by, they WILL sell out fast, Tickets are $20 through Ticketek. The Portland Hotel and James Squire Brew House is at 127 Russell St, in the CBD and doors open at 11pm.
