The loveliest buttermilk pancakes you are ever likely to come across come from the kitchens of Pancakes on the Rocks at Darling Harbour.
The pancakes themselves are made from a unique buttermilk formula that makes them consistently thick and full of light, fluffy texture that is delightful to taste. With such a wonderful thing to base all the rest of the creative trimmings on, it is no wonder that the store is busy all the time. It is a popular venue for families and tourists alike; the late night opening hours are perfect for those with a touch of jet lag.
The Strawberry Patch ($14.95) is wonderful. Fresh cream and strawberries in abundance are part of this meal. It is fresh and totally moreish. It goes well with the vanilla ice-cream on the side.
The Black Forest Cherry features thick but light chocolate pancakes in a cherry brandy sauce. Definitely one for adults, it is a chocolate indulgence with chocolate ice cream, chocolate chips and chocolate sauce. It is on offer for $15.95.
The Bavarian Apple is a traditional tasting dessert, with marinated apple and sultana, cream, vanilla ice-cream and cinnamon sugar on the delightful buttermilk pancakes. It can be yours for $13.95.
They also do gourmet pizza - try the grilled eggplant. $15.95. It is a tasty, thin-crust pizza with grilled eggplant, sun dried tomatoes, Spanish onion, marinated mushrooms, and mozzarella cheese. It is a family favourite and is good to share.
There is a Kids Menu available that has both sweet and savoury options. The Butterfly is popular with kids (the pancakes are arranged into a butterfly pattern. $7.95), as is the Funny Face for $7.95 with lollies, or kids ice-cream is $3.50.
is a great family friendly place to eat. If you love sweet treats then this is a great place for you but if you are a fan of savoury then you will not be disappointed. Enjoy!
