Lies Lies and Propaganda in collaboration with
Suspicious Woman Productions present Orpheus, playing at the
Blood Moon Theatre. The size of the stage poses a challenge for the actors, but they effectively turn the small stage into a seated area for theatregoers and use the space of the room to tell the story.
Based on the ancient legend of Orpheus and Eurydice, Director
Michael Dean puts a creative spin on the ancient tragedy. The opening scene sets in a small country town pub where flannelette wearing rowdy women are drinking beers, when city boy Orpheus (
Daniel Monks) walks in. He is trying to reclaim his wife Eurydice and bring her back home. The town sheriff and bar owner Hades (
Michael Yore) is not too keen on the idea and makes a stance for her to stay put.
The show is engaging in every sense. The characters are quirky and use unusual and creative movement as opposed to a lot of spoken dialogue to tell the story. There is so much to look at and absorb that it makes it near impossible to explain - you just HAVE to go and see it for yourself! For a night of entertaining, unpredictable independent theatre with exceptionally talented actors check out Orpheus - you will not be disappointed.
