I'm a Mum of two boys living in Oxfordshire, enjoying lots of fun activities and writing about them when I get a chance.
Run the Oxford Parks
If you're looking to try something new, enjoy some fresh air and the wonderful parks of Oxford then orienteering might just be the right activity for you.

The Thames Valley Orienteering Club runs a Saturday Series where they arrange a great introduction to orienteering. Beginners, families and kids can all take part and if you're more experienced you'll be welcomed too. These events take place in different parks around Oxford.
Their next event will be held on Saturday 7th December at one of my favourite parks in Oxford, Cutteslowe Park.
There will be a number of different courses, so if this is your first time or you're taking part with kids, then there will be something perfect for you. If you're after something a little more stretching you'll be catered for too.
What's involved? Each person receives an orienteering map with their course. On the map, you'll see a number of control points. In the park, these control points will be marked with a red and white flag.
The challenge is to reach each control in order, as fast as you can and use your map to create the best route. As you reach each marked control point, you will be recorded by a special timing chip that you'll be lent at the start of the race. Once completed, the Thames Valley Orienteering Club will download the information and give you a summary of your times.
Don't worry, there will be plenty of guidance and help for newcomers.
What to Wear? This is an exciting entry into orienteering and you can just wear whatever you feel comfortable in. I'd recommend whatever you would normally wear for a walk or jog.
When Arrive anytime between 10am and 11:30am and you can then start anytime by midday with the course closing at 1pm. There's limited parking at Cutteslowe Park when events are on but there are regular buses passing nearby that go into and out of Oxford (try the no.2 or no.7).
If you fancy having a go but can't make 7th December, don't worry. The Thames Valley Orienteering Club run regular events at different Oxford parks. You could try University Parks on 11th January 2014 and Shotover Country Park on 15th February 2014.
