Once the domain of hippies and other 'alternative lifestyle' types, sustainable living and sound environmental practice have been mainstream for quite a while now. The subtitle of this year's
Organic Expo, Organics for Everyone, embraces this idea.
The fifth annual Expo (alternating between Sydney and Melbourne annually, Harbour-siders get their turn in 2010) packs in a host of funky ideas, products and services to help us shoot for a lifestyle that's more in tune with the current zeitgeist.
This year's highlights include an organic vineyard, Organic Kids Fun Zone and the Annual Organic Expo Awards, with more than 200 exhibitors and a gaggle of celebrities, chefs, industry professionals and organics experts to help things along.
Green living certainly doesn't mean bland living. Check out organic chemical-free skin and body products. Take your pick from dozens of biodynamic wine, beer and vineyard exhibits, green stationery, cotton mattresses and sheets, organic coffee and dairy products, jewellery, organic raw chocolate, eco toys and eco-chic and glamorous 100% natural makeup.
Learn about sustainable farming, fair trade clothing and footwear and the benefits of cloth nappies and plenty more non-disposable options for babies. There's even some exhibitors that specialise in green business events and eco weddings.
The Organic Expo runs from 10am to 6pm this Saturday and Sunday at the Royal Exhibition Building in Carlton.
Beat the crowds and prepurchase
tickets online for $12.50, or $15 on the door, with children under 14 free.
