Early history of Orana
Orana was formed in 1950 by a small group of progressive and
visionary parents who were seeking educational and training opportunities for their children with intellectual disabilities who previously had been denied access to such opportunities.
How does Orana support people with a disability?
For over 60 years Orana has played a vital role in supporting South Australians living with disabilities. They do this by providing opportunities for people with a disability to live and work within their local community. This provides people with independence and the ability to fulfil their dreams and become valued and productive community members.
Orana provides employment opportunities for people in areas such as packaging and assembly, furniture making, worm farming and even pet retail. The ability to live independently increases confidence and life-skills, so Orana also provides accommodation services and provide a home for about 130 people throughout metropolitan and regional South Australia.
