Brisbane has many venues that host professional comedians, but not so many for amateur comedians. That's why the Sit Down Comedy Club (186 Given Terrace, Paddington) presents the Sit Down , an event that gives novice comedians a venue to test their material.

is to comedians what your local pubs jam night is to amateur musicians – but unlike jam night, can still be a lot of fun even if the performers are terrible. In fact, a bad comedian can be as (unintentionally) hilarious as a good one. So preapre your jeers and heckles and hit these venues:

The Newmarket Hotel (Enoggera Road) hosts Open Mic night every Monday from 7.30pm.

Wednesday night sees nervous comedians converge on the Bank Vault Bar (336 Brunswick Street, Fortitude Valley) from 8.00pm.

On Thursday, the Stones Corner Hotel (346 Logan Road) starts the laughs at 8.00pm.

And if you'd like some jokes to go with your Sunday arvo beers, hit Kitty O'Sheas (25 Caxton Street) from 7.00pm.

Entry is free at all venues.

If you consider yourself a pretty funny person, and you're brave enough to put that to the test, contact the Sit Down Comedy Club to get yourself on the line up.

Live comedy and cold beers seem like a natural combination – and if the entertainment is horrible, your drinks will dull the pain.
