Onkaparinga Adventure Playground

Published June 23rd 2011
The Onkaparinga Adventure Playground is one of the best park and playground areas in the Southern area. With a huge playground for the kids to explore and enjoy, and lots of other opportunities and facilities to use, this is a spot that is designed to cater to the entire family.

The most striking feature is the large wooden playground. With various turrets, bridges, ladders, and slides, it resembles a very elaborate wooden castle. It can accommodate loads of kids, and they will all be able to find an activity to do, or a space to run in, without crashing into other kids games. It is a fenced in area, so children are able to run about free and mingle with other children without having to be too wary of other dangers.

There are multiple play areas at the Adventure playground. This includes the main wooden 'castle' structure, as well as a smaller wooden play area, and a newer plastic playground. The types of equipment are varied, and so are the children they will appeal to. There is something for all age groups, babies and toddlers can enjoy the smaller play area without parents worrying too much about the interference of older kids, and older kids will find plenty to amuse them in the other play areas.

The park itself features some great facilities. There are plenty of undercover areas, which is great for families who may be spending a long time at the park. Barbeque facilities mean that this is a good spot for holding birthday parties or family reunions. If you do want to hold a party of some sort at the park get in contact with the council first, they need to know if there will be a large gathering on any of their public spaces. Other facilities like the well maintained public toilets reinforce the Adventure Playground as a good spot to spend a whole day, not just a few hours.

It is set amongst the scenic Onkaparinga River Mouth, and it has decent tree coverage as well as grassy fields perfect for ball games or other activities. The Onkaparinga Adventure Playground is constantly proving itself to be more than just an outdoor plot of land.

Check out some other parks and reserved in the area.
