Oktoberfest will be celebrating its 40th birthday at this year’s festival to be held over the Labour Day long weekend from October 3-5.
Traditionally a sixteen day celebration in Munich, Germany, the festival will be pared down into three days at the Fairfield Showground and is set to be one of the best yet.
Get ready to chug down those large steins of beers when club president of the
German-Austrian Club, Walter Schmied, taps open the first barrel of beer at 4.30pm on Saturday October 3 to mark the official launch of the event. And after that – it’s party time!
Accompanying the quench thirsting beverages will be a large range of international food stalls. You can stay true to tradtional celebrations by tucking into German cuisines like bratwurst (German sausage), pork knuckles or smoked fish. There will also be hearty dishes from other parts of Europe sold over the three days.
This year's entertainment will feature folk dancing along with local and international bands – two of which have come all the way from Germany.
Oktoberfest is a kid friendly event so there will also be plenty of rides to keep them happy as well as a firework show on the night of Sunday October 4.
Free shuttle buses will be running between Fairfield Showground and Fairfield and Cabramatta train stations. To find out the best times to catch the train, head to the
