There are a few ocean swims per year that are enthusiastically attended by dedicated ocean swimmers. It seems also that the sport is growing in popularity and that link between fitness, the great outdoors as well as a mental and physical challenge is all part of it.
Oceanswims.com is a website that is dedicated to ocean swimming. The website has all the local and a fair few international oceanswim events listed as well as travel and related swim gear.
Oceanswimming can be a test against the elements some days with choppy seas, cold water or changing winds and others a wonder of the beauty of water so stunningly smooth and calm that you feel you could glide right across it.

Oceanswims is dedicated to the ocean swimming environment and lists 27 current events, many of them in New South Wales.
The North Curl Curl swim for example is listed as being on December 3rd. It is a 2km swim as well as a biatholan. The cost is affordable for most pockets and you generally find that there are all different levels of ability and many different age groups.
So, if your interested in competing in an ocean swim anywhere in Australia or attending one of the global events,
oceanswims.com is a great place to start your search. They have their website, a blog, are on twitter and welcome "
contributions, written, graphical, poetic, aural, philosophical, otherwise visual."
