is not just a bakery. It is a treasure trove of all things Mediterranean, European and Middle Eastern, mainly edible but also including some colourful ceramic plates, bowls and home wares. For those who have never been to Oasis, be prepared to spend a lot of time (and maybe a bit too much money) the first time you go. The people at the cash register will know if it's your first time shopping there as your trolley will be full! If you have been before, now it's time to revisit as there have been changes and renovations. The store has been redesigned and can accommodate many more exciting new products.

The title of Bakery does not do justice to the other parts of the store, namely the cafe and the grocery store. The cafe serves breakfast as well as more substantial meals during the day. Savoury pastries, small pizzas with middle Eastern toppings, salads, wraps and shawarma are all on offer and visible to the undecided customer. Whatever you do make sure you can fit in some of the sweet delicacies too. Doughnuts with jam or Nutella, baklava, Turkish delight, cigars with ricotta and jam, pastries oozing honey and pistachios - just writing this makes me want to go back!

After enjoying breakfast or lunch it's time to step into the grocer/bakery store. Depending on your needs and wants you may spend hours browsing this store which seems to have everything and more. The bakery offers many different types of bread, including European rye and, of course, Turkish bread; some breads come with toppings such as zaatar and all taste delicious and fresh. The deli section offers meats, cheeses, antipasti and will also make up platters to suit any taste and budget. The spice aisle is filled with so many spices that you may or may not have heard of but will definitely pick up a few in their Oasis sealed containers. Similarly, the dried fruits and nuts present a dilemma as to which to choose.

There are oils, vinegar varieties, pickles, syrups and many other specialities and delicacies. If you are looking for chocolates or tinned biscuits as presents you can find of those too, from Germany, Scotland, Switzerland as well as locally made.

If shopping at oasis before Christmas, make sure you get there early as parking can be a bit tight at this time of year. There is undercover parking for a few cars and parking out front as well as in adjacent streets.

While a second store is being built in Mornington, due for completion in 2017, Oasis Pop-up is serving delicious food out of a converted shipping container and is trading from Wednesday to Sunday, 7.30am–3pm, at 988 Nepean Highway, Mornington.
