The two towns of Tea Gardens and Hawks Nest are situated on Myall River on the northern side of Port Stephens, which is approximately one hour drive from Newcastle and two and half hours north of Sydney. With 145km of amazing coastlines, this area is popular for fishing and water sports including snorkelling, diving, kayaking and swimming.

Oaks Boathouse Resort is centrally located and overlooks the stunning lake. It features top class facilities including a heated swimming pool with a sandy beach, comfortable easy chairs and shade sails. The swimming pool area is beautifully landscaped and is the perfect place to relax, so bring a book and work on your tan, while the children play on the small beach and splash around on the shallow end of the pool. If you enjoy swimming, you will love the lap pool.

And when you are done relaxing, head to the resort's steam room or gym.

In reception you will find lovely staff, who can organise various tours for you and offer helpful suggestions on places to explore and activities to enjoy. You can also hire a bike and Playstation console for the kids.

Other features of the resort include security access and intercom, lift access and secure undercover parking. For a fee you can also take advantage of their secretarial services.

The Resort is made up of one, two and three bedroom very spacious and comfortable apartments with modern decor and large balconies overlooking the stunning Myall lakes.

Each apartment has a fully equipped kitchen including a dishwasher, microwave and plenty of cupboard space. The bathrooms are generous and with spa baths. Every unit also has reverse cycle air conditioning, large dining table, direct dial phones, plasma TV with Foxtel and broadband internet access.

We had booked into the apartment for just one night, to break up a long trip from Byron Bay, but I wish we had stayed longer.

The rooms were immaculate, in fact, the balcony windows were so clean, I walked right into it, thinking it was open! One of my finer moments.

Myall Lakes area offers a wide variety of activities no matter how old you are.
