(NTMS) believes that everyone can play musical instruments. Their mission is to provide instrumental, ensemble and choral tuition, music education services, support, events and programs to Northern Territory Government Schools.

Through their music education program, NTMS are building a creative future for kids. Research shows that music will help someone to communicate, collaborate and develop their creativity. Music helps the brain make connections that support learning in other areas too, such as literacy and numeracy.

NTMS students start from year 5 up to year 12 students. These students are enrolled in regular weekly music and performing arts curriculum programs. Many hundreds more of them are also involved in NTMS annual calendar of combined schools performing, arts events and activities throughout the Territory, such as Battle of the School Bands, Beat Festival and many community performances.

Since 1967, NTMS has a proud history of supporting music and performing arts education in schools in the Northern Territory and producing graduates, many of whom enjoy successful careers as performers and teachers with nationally and internationally recognition.

The NTMS operates across the Northern Territory from multiple campuses and offices and leads programs in support of NT Government schools at all stages of learning. Through the school's student-centred teaching and learning programs, NTMS strives for continuous improvement based on the principles of Visible Learning and the ACER School Improvement Tool.

The program runs at lots of schools across Northern Territory. School children come out of their regular class once a week for 30 minutes to attend their lessons with NTMS teacher. Instruments offered in the program include flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, percussion, guitar and voice.

For more information about this program, please visit the NTMS website www.ntms.net.au and complete the online application form.

Availability of instruments and group size is determined by the number of applications. Unfortunately, not all students will be offered a place. These students will be placed on waiting lists.
