Libraries are not renowned for being the most exciting of places to spend your weekend- but visit the #north "> and you may change your mind.



The grand 1880s building contains a wealth of information about local history, ideal for those wanting to trace their family's story. There is even a #tree ">Family History Group , which runs sessions to assist your research.

Of course, there are plenty of general interest books as you would expect in a library. The varied collection caters for adult, children and young adult readers, and includes some foreign language books. They even sport a Manga section for both youth and adult tastes.

More than just a collection of dusty books, the library has quite the social life. Particularly during the school holidays, there are plenty of activity sessions for younger children. Throughout the school year, a book club for children, #bookaroos ">Bookaroos , runs on the last Thursday of each month. For adult readers, there is the Third Wednesday Book Club .
And forget about being hushed by cranky librarians- the library even hosts #acoustica ">musical performances every now and then.

Even if you're not from North Melbourne, you are still welcome to enjoy their local library, its events and the free borrowing service if you sign up for a library card.

The is open seven days; 10am to 7pm from Monday to Wednesday, 10am to 6pm Thursday, 1pm to 6pm Friday, 10am to 4pm Saturday and 2pm to 5pm Saturday.
