A brand-spanking new restaurant has recently opened up on Vardon Avenue (just off Ebenezer Place) and is the epitome of infusions from Southern America.

NOLA is a bar and restaurant that boasts of a brilliant selection of whiskey and beer. The idea of NOLA began with four very talented guys, who decided to offer us Adelaideans with a slice of New Orleans, Louisiana (which is where the abbreviation NOLA comes from).

I was really impressed by the use of the space that makes up the NOLA bar. There are two floors to this lovely establishment - the downstairs area is mainly designed to host a crowd where people mainly stop by for a couple of bevvies with the mates after work.

The upstairs areas is a lot more spacious and offers a fine dining experience, while the room is filled with natural light.

I was fortunate enough to try a number of dishes, each with their own wonderful fusion of flavours. This included the Marlin Tartare, the Creole Tomato Jambalaya, Black Eyed Beans and Charred Corn Salad, Smoked Wild Boar Meatballs and NOLA Fried Chicken.

The Marlin Tartare was a delightful appetiser, with a number of subtle ingredients coming together beautifully and resulting in a lovely balance between the crispiness of the chip and the softness of the salsa.

The Smoked Wild Boar Meatballs had a beautiful combination of herbs, spices, and meat that made this dish an all-rounder. The meatballs were perfectly shaped to enjoy them as a bite-sized appetiser and went deliciously well with a glass of white wine.

Similarly, the Nola Fried Chicken was cooked to perfection – it had a brilliant balance of a crispy outer layer and succulent, soft meat hiding underneath. However, the dipping sauce that was served alongside the fried chicken could've tasted better with less salt.

The Jambalaya was my least favourite dish, as it appeared to be a bit bland and lacked salt and/or flavouring to make it an appetising dish.

NOLA also has a fine selection of red/white wine, craft beer straight from the Adelaide Hills and whiskey-infused cocktails, all of which delivered fantastically. The staff was very knowledgeable about the alcohol supplied within these premises and were able to recommend some brilliant choices based on the guests' hankering for alcoholic goodness.

Overall, I think NOLA is full of potential and have a lot of exciting things lined up for them. While they are still in their first stages of setting up themselves to be a familiar icon in the East End, Adelaide is surely in for a treat when they are in the caring hands of the lovely, friendly staff members! There is no doubt that NOLA will be visited by many, particularly on a Friday or Saturday night, because their alcohol is absolutely amazing and the dining atmosphere is simply refreshing and full of positivity.
