No Dinner Dates

For the calorie-conscious among us, going on dates can be a nightmare. It seems all social activities are based around eating, or worse, drinking. Even seemingly innocuous dates such as going to the movies can be accompanied by sugar-laden snacks. Here are some fun ideas for dates which won't undermine your dieting efforts.

Go to the beach
The beach is a romantic location for a stroll, and is beautiful at any time of day. Beware that you could encounter with ice-cream carts and old men in speedos if you go during the summer, but during the cooler months, the beach can be an intimate location. Better yet, the chill factor may lead to you and your date needing to huddle for warmth.

Go ice-skating
Rug up in your mittens, break out the legwarmers and prepare to trip over your own feet on the ice. Or, if you're feeling retro, go roller-skating instead. Surely it's against the rules of every rink to eat whilst you are skating, so you will return from your date having expended far more kilojoules than you consumed.

Visit a museum
Discover common interests with your partner by going on a museum date. Art, history, and science museums abound in capital cities, and are usually in central locations. You will get exercise wandering around the museum, and museum food tends to be prohibitively expensive.

See a concert
Impress your date with tickets to see the latest pop star to arrive in town. Depending on how famous your musician of choice is, this could be a very expensive date, but at least if it is a good show you won't be tempted to snack through it.

Go to a comedy show
Giggle or groan at the offerings of your local, and avoid the pressure of having to entertain your partner by telling lame jokes. Just make sure not to order any alcoholic beverages as you watch the show.

Enjoy a salad
Going on a lunch date is not out of the question after all. Healthy take-out options are not always the most romantic - as tasty as Subway is, you might not be so impressed by being taken there for a date. However, going to a trendy salad bar such as Chopt could be an option.

Keep the time of day in mind when scheduling a date - if you put it around a mealtime, you're bound to end up peckish even if you haven't planned to get a meal. Ideal times for a foodless date would be the afternoon, or late evening after you've already had dinner.
