The only party you'll want to attend this NYE
It's that time of year again. We've stuffed our faces with Christmas food, we've disposed of all the wrapping paper and we're slowly but surely returning those gifts we never wanted. There's nothing left to do this year except to ring in the New Year in style. Make Mooloolaba the last place you visit this year and the first place you spend the next.

If you can find a better place to celebrate New Year's Eve I'd like to know.

The local council have a good track record with putting on huge, family New Year's Eve parties at Mooloolaba. Really, there's no better place for it. There's a reason 40,000 people have packed the esplanade on previous nights.

There's something for everyone here - live music, DJs, carnival rides, roving street entertainment, children's face painting, food stalls and of course, two spectacular fireworks displays (8.30pm for the kids, and midnight).

The kids will have a blast here - there's a live Madagascar III show, a live Peter Pan show and a performance by the Boogie Woogies.

The Boogie Woogies are coming to rock New Year's Eve for kids at Mooloolaba.

For those of us with a more mature taste in music - prepare your ear drums for Thirsty Merc, Soula and The Jungle Giants. Check out the full program for the night's entertainment here.

Thirsty Merc will keep the older crowds entertained in the lead up to midnight.

If you're worried about this degenerating into some kind of typical drunken Gold Coast scene then perhaps this will put your mind at rest - this is an alcohol, glass and drug free event in a patrolled, fenced event zone. Intoxicated patrons will not gain entry to the event or carriage on buses. As in previous years, there will be plenty of security. If you do like to have a drink though - there are plenty of pubs and clubs along the Mooloolaba Esplanade. You'll be right.

While getting out and having a great time is important - so is the trip home. Thankfully, the local council has free public buses between Boxing Day and January 5, with additional services on New Year's Eve.

I wonder who the dinosaur plays in Peter Pan. I hope it's not Tink!
