If you are a woman looking to return to work after a break or just looking to update you skills then the New Opportunities for Women course (NOW) course might be just right for you. The New Opportunities for Women course has been running in Western Australia for over 25 years and it is estimated that about 16,000 women have participated in this program.
The NOW course is a general education course that includes skills, knowledge and self-confidence builders to help women enter into employment or further education and training. The course is intended to support women as they update their skills, explore the avenues of further education or discover what career or education opportunities are available to them. When you finish the course you will have an accredited Certificate 1 in New Opportunities for Women.
The NOW course is held at Challenger TAFE and runs full time for 1 semester (15 weeks) between school hours. It covers basic maths and English, basic computer skills and helps to build up your self-confidence. The lecturers help you to research career opportunities and work placement and also cover useful skills needed to get a job; how to write a resume, how to apply for a job and how to prepare and deal with a job interview. As well as the core subjects you can also do a basic First Aid Course. There are costs involved but the course is Centrelink approved so you may be able to get some assistance with fees.
If you plan to go on to study further the lecturers will help you find out what courses you can take and what experience or qualifications you need to get into those courses. Whether your plan is to get a new job or return to study the lecturers will assist you in any way they can to make your transition as smooth as possible.
In 2012 The New Opportunities for Women course will run at
Challenger TAFE, Fremantle, Rockingham or Peel Campus and it is also run at the
Central Institute of Technology in Leederville and
