He is one of the best-known astrophysicists and certainly the most enthusiastic science educator of our time. The host of
StarTalk podcast and
Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey (2014), Dr Neil deGrasse Tyson is a passionate proponent of building a scientifically literate society capable of critical thinking, and rational approaches to issues that face humanity today.
"The most dangerous people in a free society are those who don't know… It's okay to not know. But if you don't know, but think you do know… that is dangerous. Those are the signs of the end of an informed democracy"
His charismatic personality and often child-like enthusiasm for the marvels and mysteries of the universe have endeared him to audiences across the globe. He also readily engages with popular culture and his Twitter feed provides an entertainingly educational read in bite-sized pieces.
"Everyone should have their mind blown once a day".
This July, in collaboration with Think Inc Dr Neil deGrasse Tyson returns to our shores to share more mind-bending science with Australian audiences as part of his brand new tour –
A Cosmic Perspective. The three-part event will incorporate a personal presentation by Dr Tyson himself, followed by a fireside chat with a local media personality, and a half-hour audience Q&A.
Dr Tyson will touch on such heavy-weight topics as: Are we likely to encounter alien life, and will they be protected by the same ethical codes we apply to each other? How political dogma has fuelled the war on science and reason in the age of 'post-truth' and 'alternative fact'?
Are we witnessing another Space Race for exploration? Does rapid development of Artificial Intelligence threaten us with extinction? Or can we bypass this possible doom that looms close on the horizon?
