Planet Ark - National Recycling Week
For one week, Australians join force to support the National Recycling Week held on Monday, 7 November to Sunday, 13 November 2011. Planet Ark, an Australian not-for-profit environmental organisation, established National Recycling Week in 1996 in order to aid awareness of the benefits and positive impact recycling has on our environment.

Free Aussie Swap Parties
Through community recycling programs and popular events like the Big Aussie Swap Party, this national educational campaign aims to inform workplaces, schools and individuals of the importance of reducing, reusing and recycling. Entering its sixteenth year, this annual event has grown to be one of the most highly regarded campaigns in our nation and there are many ways you can get involved.

Featured events include The Big Aussie Swap Party (see video below) and Friday File Fling, a national recycling event for business' and workplaces. It's easy to register your business or workplace for the 2011 Friday File Fling. Click here to sign-up online and download all the information you need including promotional resources and guides.

What is a Big Aussie Swap Party?
Essentially, a swap party is an event whereby you exchange good quality items you no longer need for someone else's unwanted items. Items can be pieces of clothing, toys or anything else you have lying around the house. Swap parties are free and are run all throughout Australia. Presented by Melissa Doyle of the Channel Seven show Sunrise, the video below delivers an easy guide to understanding swap parties.

To find a swap party in your area or to enquire about hosting your own visit the website. For all other events being held in your area search the event locater online.

Community Recycling Programs
Help the environment by recycling your corks
Want to aid awareness of environmental issues for longer than one week? Planet Ark hosts a mass of community recycling programs that run all year long. Find out where you can recycle your old reading glasses, corks and other unwanted items by visiting the website RecyclingNearYou or calling the national hotline on 1300 733 712.

Donating, Trading, Exchanging
Part of recycling is trading and exchanging your unused items. Instead of putting old items in the bin find out how you can help the environment by recycling through Trade and Exchange.

Planet Ark established National Recycling Week in 1996
National Recycling Week provides the community with a wealth of information and entertaining events to inform us of the importance of reducing, reusing and recycling while at home, work or in public. Of course, there's also the chance I might find some great designer clothes at my local swap party.

Just for fun, test your recycling knowledge by completing the online quiz Recycle Right Quiz. To find out more about National Recycling Week visit the website.
