With all the recent controversy about gay marriage this cute little picture book is timely. It doesn't mention marriage, but it does deal with the related subject of gay couples adopting children.

There's nothing of the drama or controversy surrounding the subject in this book though. It's simply the story of a little girl who has two dads. It doesn't try to explain why she has two of them, just that she does and she's happy about it. My little one accepted this without comment and chatted happily about how the little girl in the story has a superhero cape like hers and how one of the dads wears glasses like her own daddy does. Her reaction gives me hope of a future where families will be left to just get on with loving one another without having to deal with prejudice and discrimination.

My Two Super Dads is written by Bronny Fallens and illustrated by Muntsa Vicente. This book is one of a series by same author and illustrator team about different kinds of families. Others in the series include My Super Single Mum and My Super Groovy Gran. There doesn't seem to be a book yet about a kid with two mums, or a single dad, but maybe those are still to come.
