Musée de l'érotisme (Museum of Eroticism)

Located a few doors down from the Moulin Rouge in the red light district of Pigalle is the Musee De L'Erotisme.

Finding ourselves without the children for one night in Paris we wondered whether this museum would be something we would like to look at. We were undecided, thinking it might be sleazy and horrible. However we had a discount vouchers so it was only going to cost us a few euros each to enter and as we both love art in all its myriad of forms, we thought, why not!

The Musee De L'Erotisme has over 2000 items spread over 7 floors in one building.

As Paris is restricted to 5 stories, 2 of the floors are located in the basement.

There are stairs connecting every level, however for those who experience difficulties with this there are also elevators.

We were taken on an interesting experience which included admiration of art, childish giggles and a few twists of the head sideways wondering what on earth that thing was for.

I was particularly taken with one art piece which looked like a painting with the curtain hanging over it and a woman's stockinged leg emerging from the window. Leaving the audience to wonder whether she was sneaking in, sneaking out or being caught in the act.

It is a truly unique place devoted to erotic art in its myriad of forms and celebrates this form of art throughout time and different world cultures.

Promising to take you on a journey of love, humour, art and tradition, they boast they are a prestigious setting for all erotic fantasies.

The Musee De L'Erotisme is open seven days a week from 10 AM to 2 AM. It is the only museum in Paris that can be visited day and night.

Entry fees at €10 per adult or €6 for students or seniors, children are not admitted.
