Adding the 'wow' factor to home baked cakes
Birthday Cakes are like works of art. Each one has a little story to tell. Well, atleast until it's eaten.

Themed birthday cakes are always in so much demand. A cake can be the highlight of any special occasion. Baking at home was never an option for me as I was creatively-challenged and if I did discover an idea, I found it hard to execute the idea to perfection. I absolutely appreciate a little help or a small nudge in the right direction.

Mumma Cakes was probably just what I wanted. This website offers pre-packaged cake kits and a huge range of choice to choose from. The DIY cake kits selection includes fire truck cakes, fairy house cakes, superhero cakes, castle cakes, rainbow layer cake, jellybean soccer cakes to just name a few. You will find something that every child adores.

My selection tip: Go for one that you probably wouldn't have imagined you could pull off. You will be pleasantly surprised with what you can achieve.

The cake kits come beautifully packed. It has everything one needs including a cake board, a disposable baking pan, cake mix, icing and decorative elements. The only ingredients you will need over and above the kit are eggs and water.

The instruction manual is extremely easy to follow. It is supported by pictures that clearly explain the tricky bits (if any) and expert tips that help . As I started following the instructions and putting it together, I realised how easy the kit had made my baking experience. With all the ingredients already at hand, it took me around 30-45 minutes to decorate the fairy garden cake.

Kids would love decorating the cake too. Not to mention how much fun the whole experience is. Mummacakes have obviously thought of every little aspect when putting the kit together. Like providing plenty of extra decorations and icing, providing multiple colour options where possible, ensuring finer details are not missed eg. doorknobs on the door for the fairy garden cake pictured below that I baked using mummacakes DIY kit.

The end result is an awesome themed party cake that will be the highlight and talking point for months to come. Not to mention how easy and how much fun it was to put together.

The DIY kits are available in a variety of ranges including cakes for special occasion, themed cupcakes and gluten free ranges. The kits remove the cumbersome and time consuming job of getting all the ingredients together. The instructions are very clear and easy to follow and the designs and ideas wonderful. It ticks all my boxes and I would give it 3 gold stars without doubt. My only concern is that I probably don't want to wait for another year to bake another one of these cakes.

On Friday I viewed the website, today I wanted to order for my sons b'day next weekend and the website is "unavailable". Left a couple of messages on their FB page with no answer over the weekend. Is this business still in operation?

what a great idea, I didn't know these existed, could've done with it last year when I presented my 4yr old with a truly awful attempt at a plane cake....I will be doing one of these this year!

Hi Christina, the result was so good that I was extremely pleased with myself. You might want to checkout the competition to win a cake kit.

hey Christina - I think it might be a temporary thing. I've let the owner know and should hear from them soon. I'll keep you posted.

This is great. I've baked cakes and attempted some sculpting of the cake, in the past, to achieve a somewhat reasonable birthday figure but the Mumma Cakes look like they would help me achieve a better result.

Hi Faye - Mummacakes have done all the hardwork and got the ideas and ingredients together. Some of the cakes are available in multiple colours, you can also add Fondant Fun Packs to their cake kit, letter cookie cutters + a shape cookie cutter (e.g heart, circle, star) and there are so many more options to personalise the cake. The experience is so much fun too.
