Set over 28 luscious hectares, the elevated
Mt Tomah Botanic Garden is a cool-climate wonderland.
Mt Tomah, the cousin of the
Royal Botanic Gardens and the
Mt Annan Botanic Garden, is mainly home to cool-climate plants from around the world, particularly Australia. It is also bounding with
wildlife.
As this
map shows, there is a collection of attractive feature gardens to inspect. Highlights include:
the gorgeous
Rosarium
• the idiosyncratic
Rock Garden
• the fascinating
Plant Explorers Walk
• the hanging swamps of the
Bog Garden
• the temperate rainforest of
The Jungle
• the rare spectacle of the
Wollemi Pines
• the distinctive sights and smells of the
Southern Hemisphere Woodland
• the modern domestic-scale landscaping of the
Residence Garden
And with plenty of interpretive signs, as well as a selection of guided and self-guided
tours to choose from, this is a place where you can both look and learn.
The best way to enjoy Mt Tomah is languidly. Don't be in a rush- aimless strolling and thoughtless loafing are part of the solution, not the problem. Bring a friend, bring a partner, bring a family member. Feel free to pack or picnic, or let the good folk in the
restaurant fill your stomach for you. Either way, it's important to take time to smell the roses.
