An hour north of Brisbane lies Mt Ngungun , which, at 253 metres, is only the 6th tallest of the Glasshouse Mountains, but is, in my opinion, one of the very best to climb.

We decided to complete this hike with a bunch of mates early one Saturday morning. When we arrived at 7am the car park at the bottom of the mountain was already packed, which was the first indication of how beautiful this walk and view was going to be. After applying sunscreen (and wishing we had thought to pack insect repellent) we took off through the bush along a well marked path.

The walk itself was not overly challenging, however I did take a quick break on the 20min hike to the summit. My fitter friends were keen to walk straight to the top without stopping, but as long as you are aware of your own fitness levels and are willing to take breaks if needed there is no reason why you shouldn't make it.

After a while the track becomes rocky and you know you are close to the top. Once there you can take as long as you need to recover, but I believe you won't even notice you are tired once you see the view. It is just sublime. You can see all the way to the water and on a clear day, even all the way to Brisbane.

We sat at the top and talked for an hour just taking in all the beauty on offer. If you walk a little further you can sit on the very top and look over the side at the very brave individuals abseiling and climbing up the rock. Perhaps if you like the view as much as we did, you might consider that next.
