MS Moonlight Walk

Home > Things to do in Brisbane > Charity
Event: 22/10/2010
By night Brisbane is a different animal – the hustle and bustle leaves and the city breathes a sigh of relief as if almost to say it's calm – now I can rest. You can explore this night wonderland and help your own health and the health of others by taking part in the MS Moonlight Walk on Friday 22 October 2010. Starting at South Bank, you can wander across the Goodwill Bridge, stroll through the Botanic Gardens and along the riverfront, walk the Story Bridge by night and see the Kangaroo Point Cliffs in illuminated glory while making your way back to the Cultural Forecourt at South Bank. Marshals will be at various points along the route to save you from getting lost on the unique journey. As well as fun walk around some of Brisbane's nightlights, you can enjoy entertainment and prize draws at walk headquarters at South Bank.

The MS Moonlight Walk is a fundraiser for the MS Society of Queensland and the aim is to raise $100,000 to assist the society help people living with multiple sclerosis (MS), a disease which affects the central nervous system. According to the MS Society of Queensland, over 20,000 Australians are currently living with MS and the average age of diagnosis is 30 years old. The disease affects three times as many women as men and there is no cure for the disease. The MS Society of Queensland provides support and assistance to people living with MS including residential facilities.

Registration for the MS Moonlight Walk costs $30 for adults and $70 for a family and can be completed online. Want to walk in a group, create a team and start holding fundraising events. You'll get a team webpage on the MS Moonlight Walk website and that warm feeling of doing good for the world.

South Bank Parklands is the easiest place to park for the MS Moonlight Walk as the event starts and ends there. Celebrations kick off at 4:30pm with the walk starting at 6:00pm. The night is expected to end at 9:00pm. If you want to use public transport to get to the startline, South Brisbane Railway Station, the Cultural Centre Busway Station and the South Bank CityCat terminal are all within a couple of hundred metres from the Cultural Forecourt at South Bank.

Rain, hail or moonshine the MS Moonlight Walk will take place so check out the weather on the night and be prepared to have fun.
