Head on down to Manly, a picturesque suburb nestled in Moreton Bay, for a night of market browsing, children's entertainment and a free movie.
On the first Saturday of the month, the
Manly Chamber of Commerce and the
Bayside PCYC presents Movies in the Park, a free outdoor screening of family friendly movies. Little Bayside Park (
Royal Esplanade, Manly) is the site for entertainment aimed at all ages.
Market stalls open at 3.00pm, with crafts and handmade goods on display. There will also be food stalls and face painting, jumping castle and other rides and entertainment for children, followed by the movie screening promptly at 6.00pm.
If you'd prefer not to fork out money for expensive market rides and food, then take advantage of the surroundings. Little Bayside Park is a family friendly arena, with a playground, giant climbing web, barbeque facilities and a newish toilet block. In summer, you can make the most of the
Manly Swimming Pool, which stays open until 6.00pm.
The area surrounding the park provides a plethora of cafes and fish and chip shops, as well as a long stretch of waterfront that houses the largest man-made yacht marina on the east coast. The Manly Esplanade has bike and walking tracks if you wish to explore further.
Movies in the Park is a free event and is suited to all ages, although the movies are children friendly (previous screenings include Aladdin and My Big Fat Greek Wedding.) Don't forget to bring chairs or a rug to sit on, and rug up, as it gets cold down by the water.
