Mount Mascal Stables is a family-run business that's been going 40 years, providing riding opportunities at what is the largest riding centre inside the M25.

Riding a horse is something everyone should try at least once in their life.

For a first-timer, it takes a certain amount of courage to climb onto the back of an animal much larger than yourself and hope that it follows your instructions, as opposed to performing a move reminiscent of the Buckaroo game.

Few people would disagree with the assertion that the horse is a graceful and elegant creature, and the staff at Mount Mascal Stables are happy to help you fully appreciate these characteristics.

They'll also teach you how to approach and treat a horse in order to gain its confidence and trust before that all-important riding experience.

Experienced riders are, of course, welcome too.

If you're really nervous about getting on a horse, they also have ponies that you can try first. These smaller animals will hopefully help you to get comfortable before moving on to the larger gee-gees.

The trained staff at the stables make it clear that they work at a pace that suits you, and will never cajole you into doing something you are not comfortable with.

Both private and group lessons are offered, so you could get a bunch of buddies together and make a trip there with them.

Riding gear is provided, so don't worry about the need to get kitted out if you're only intending to try horse riding once.

If, however, you do get the bug after a few lessons, Mount Mascal Stables can recommend the correct gear to suit your needs.

The stables also run 'Children Fun Days' which take place in the week, during school holidays and also on bank holidays.

The day, which is aimed at children of six years and over and who have at least some riding experience, starts at 10am, running through to 3.45pm.

Children are put into groups according to riding experience and then get riding! Participants will also have the chance to play games and learn about stable management.

Lunch and refreshments are all part of the package, which costs £35.

The stables are an ideal escape from the concrete of the capital, situated in the beautiful Kent countryside.

If you've never tried horse riding before, you may just discover a new hobby.
