What is a Motor City Music Festival? It's a music festival with something for everyone. There is rock and roll for the grown ups in licensed venues and a family day for the children, teenagers, grandparents - in fact the event covers all ages on Sunday at the family day.

Bringing a Music Festival to a City

When Geelong didn't have its own music festival, Hugo T Armstrong (from the team at Bay City Events, creators and operators of the famous Queenscliff Blues Train) brought the Geelong "Motor City Music Festival" to our great city.

So why do the advertisments and bill boards say "Geetroit"?

It's a bit of a play on words! Detroit, in the United States, was dubbed Motor City due to its domination of car production. When Ford came along in 1925, Geelong was also dubbed Motor City. Adding a bit of Gen-Y irony, and taking it one step further, Geelong has become widely known as Geetroit, Australia's own motor city.

Something for Everyone

At Geelong's own music festival, the Motor City Music Festival, there is something for everyone. And as all the headlines state - Geetroit Rocks!

At the Geelong Showgrounds, from Friday 6th March to Sunday 8th March there is a lot going on at the Motor City Music Festival. At the fully licensed venue, Friday and Saturday, there are five stages for your entertainment. This part of the event is for over 18s only and you can rock and roll all day and all night.

Geelong City has so much to offer and the Geetroit Motor City Music Festival is just one more event on our calendar of great things to do and see in Geelong and the region. The Geetroit Motor City Music Festival is proudly supported by the City of Greater Geelong.

Friday night

Friday night at the Motor City Music Festival, at the over 18s event, rock and roll on the grass at one of the stages, or sing the blues at the next stage. Purchase a ticket, rock at the five stages or out in the open. Bring a rug to sit on, grab some food from the food vans, and dance the night away with your friends.

Buy a single day ticket or a double day pass for Friday and Saturday. Some of the acts on Friday night include Claude Hay, Chris Wilson Band, Painters and Dockers, Electric Mary, The Black Sorrows, AD/DSHE, Broderick Smith and more.

Saturday

Saturday at the Motor City Music Festival is Blues and Roots night, with over 18s only. Featured are some of the best artists in Australian Blues and Roots across three stages. Acts include Cass Eager & the Velvet Rope, Geoff Achison with Chris Wilson, Lloyd Spiegel, Pugsley Buzzard, Sammy Owen Blues Band, the Honeytones, the Detonators and more.
