The Mother's Day Classic Fun Run is on 8 May 2016, which is of course Mother's Day.

This is more than just a fun run. It is a family day to honour all of the mothers out there and to pay respect to all of those who have battled or are still going through the cancer fight.

The day started in 1998 to honour anybody affected by this terrible disease and since then it has grown into Australia's largest breast cancer fundraiser. More than 130,000 participants throughout Australia take part, raising money for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

The Mother's Day Classic has a cult following for many women and families. It has become a way of supporting loved ones present and past, and a milestone for those battling cancer to challenge themselves to reach a goal. It is an inspiration to women everywhere. If you want to get involved but are unsure if you're fit enough, then rest assured you can walk the course. Information on training courses can be found here.

Of course, everyone knows someone affected by breast cancer, but you don't have to be personally involved to join in the fun of this day. Those who are on a journey of a healthier lifestyle or a fitness regime enter the Mother's Day Classic for their own personal milestones.

The event is held in hundreds of outdoor venues throughout Australia. Every major city is hosting the race, as well as many regional cities such from Toowoomba to Ballina, Townsville to Alice Springs, and Geraldton to Warrnambool. See here for a venue close to you. Be one of the 130,000 people walking, jogging or running each Mother's Day. Race day merchandise is very popular and can be purchased at the online shop.

What a wonderful healthy way to kick off your Mother's Day Sunday. Bring your partner, kids and friends along to walk as a team then enjoy breakfast at a cafe or restaurant, or a picnic brunch in the park. Many locations have live entertainment acts, delegates, celebrities and sponsors making appearances and presented awards. Click on the Entertainment section of your local city or town for information on what your nearest Mother's Day Classic will be hosting. All of the big cities will have Kids Zones which may include jumping castles, face painting, bubbles and roving entertainers.

And of course coffee carts and other food vendors will be on site at most venues, including sausage sizzles at many of them.

How long is the race you ask? Most venues have multiple race lengths from around 4.5km to 10km, although some have race lengths starting from 2km. See your local venue for details. You can register for whichever distance you prefer, and you can choose to either walk or run. Whilst there will always be a winner, this is not about winning the race, it is about challenging yourself to be the best you can and have fun along the way.

It is becoming increasingly popular to dress up either on your own or part of a team. On the day you'll see tutus, knee high stripey socks, funny wigs, fairy wings and lots of pink!

The event is obviously held on Mother's Day, 8 May 2016 and cost $40 if you're a walker, or $45 if you're a runner.Cost:Early Bird Adult Walk $40 Run $45

Register here and kickstart a "feelgood" Mother's Day.

Sounds like a challenge for a worthwhile cause. I'm no runer but I could walk the distance.

This is a great event to enter. It was one of my most enjoyable Mother's Day outings with my daughter.
