Asian cuisines enjoyed a surge in popularity throughout the noughties but in the
tensies, it's all about Middle Eastern cuisine.
Learn to cook authentic Moroccan dishes using traditional methods and equipments, thanks to
Dance Baladi Bellydance Studio and Short Courses. The two and a half hour night time class is taught at the
Aegean Restaurant (
19 Brunswick Street, Fitzroy). Parking is free along Brunswick Street after 6.00pm.
Students are given direct instruction on how to prepare seven different Moroccan dishes. This involves a selection of vegetarian meals, salads and mains, including a lamb dish cooked in a
tagine (a dome shaped clay cooking pot). Class sizes are kept small to ensure each member receives hands on attention.
When the class is finished, all participants sit down to enjoy the fruits of their labour and a glass of wine. The cost of this experience is $120 (or $110 if you book before 13 April).
The studio also offers private cooking classes for groups of five to fifteen people. The cost is $120 - $150 per person, depending on numbers, and classes can take place from Monday to Sunday between 9.00am and 11.00pm.
The next Moroccan Cooking Classes take place on Monday, 18 April and Monday, 23 May from 7.00pm until approximately 9.30pm. Bookings are essential and limited; see the website for contact details.
