An invitation to a friend's birthday found us heading to the Scarborough Boat Harbour, the location of Morgans Seafood Restaurant and Teppanyaki Room. I have only ever been to one other, and that was in Sydney. My wife has never been to one, and was unsure of what to expect.
We are shown to our seats by very friendly staff, and our drink orders are taken, and served promptly. A menu is placed in front of us, with a great variety to select from. Seafood lovers and meat lovers alike, all prepared and cooked in an Asian style.
My wife selects an seafood combination that also includes a chicken dish also. As I am not a seafood eater, I choose the beef, chicken and lamb combination.
The Chef arrives at his cooking station of which we are all sitting around to view his expertise. The first selections of seafood and meats are placed on the hot plate.
King Prawns have there heads removed, deshelled and cleaned only with the chefs knife whilst on the hot plate.
Amazing to watch, as I have trouble doing this with my hands.
The first course is cooked to perfection and served, the flavours are intense.
The Chef the places stainless steel bowls of varying sizes in front of the guests. My bowl is an egg cup. He then places eggs around the the cooking station, and the advises everyone that they must catch the eggs in the bowls.
Eggs are flying everywhere, along with the laughter, as some are able to catch and some not able (thankfully we are all wearing the huge bibs which were provided to us). Any eggs that survived are then cooked and some more activities begin, with the chef, chopping the now cooked eggs in a fashion that has everyone covered in them. And yes, everyone was laughing and having fun.
Then more meat is placed on the hot plate, and again cooked to perfection.
Then the Chef prepares the final serving, which is fried rice. However to be able to eat it you must catch the bowl that it is served in, in another bowl. This also had the guests in laughter, as rice is flying through the air towards some skilled and some not so skilled with the catching ability. The rice is spectacular, and again the flavours are amazing.
And the to finish the experience, the chef thanks everyone buy writing it upside down with salt.
For great food and a fun night out, I can only suggest that you need to experience it at least once. I will most certainly return.
Meals start from about $30.00 and they cater for all. They have a vegetarian menu also, that looked amazing.
This is a state award winning Teppanyaki Room and with Master Teppanyaki Chef, Kim Eldridge and his team, the experience is made memorable and enjoyable.
