By mid 2012, I'll be finishing my economics and international relations degree. I love writing, art, music, hanging out with my friends & being a productive night owl. You can find me on twitter @Meowsha. PS Cats are the best! :)
Event: 08/12/2011 - 25/03/2012

Looking for somewhere to go with your friends, or to take that special person on a first date? The Moonlight Cinema is back from Thursday, 8th of December until Sunday 25th of March. The gates open at 6.30pm, and the screening begins during sunset, at about 8.30pm. Movies end at about 11pm. Located at beautiful Centennial Park, watch a movie in the moonlight.

The official movie program comes out later this month, so keep your eyes peeled to the website. Tickets are priced at $18 for an adult, $16 concessions, children and seniors are $14 and "Gold Grass" is $33 a ticket. If you're looking for a small Christmas present for a friend, you can purchase a gift voucher online for $16. In fact, it's better to pre-purchase your tickets online in any case in case the movie gets sold out. You just need to note that online bookings incur a $1 booking fee. If you feel like purchasing tickets in person, you can do so at the box office, which is near the cinema entrance. The risk is that really popular films will sell out quickly.

If you're after a cheap date, you can pre-purchase tickets for a Wednesday session for only $12 for all ages. Gold Grass is $8 cheaper at $25 a ticket, so if you're curious about that experience, Wednesday is the day to try it without completely breaking your wallet. Preview screenings are excluded from the discount. Also, given that many cinemas have their discount day on a Tuesday, you can take advantage of two cheap cinema days.

This year's food menu isn't out yet, I'm assuming it will be with the film program. Gourmet picnic hampers are in the making. This year, the menu should be in the style of New York street food and will include a full bar on site. This will give the typical dinner and a movie date an interesting flare. If you're worried about comfort, you'll be able to hire a bean bed for $9 plus a $10 deposit which will be returned to you after you give it back. These are distributed on a first come, first serve basis. Gold Grass tickets include bean beds and a premium viewing location. If you're hiring a bean bed, you might as well go Gold Grass, given the price difference. For an adult, it works out to be $25 on a non-Wednesday to hire a bean bed. Therefore, it's only an $8 difference to have a better view, too.

It is recommended you travel to the moonlight cinema by public transport, in order to avoid the traffic of other cinemagoers. Located in Paddington at the Belvedere Amphitheatre, the Woollahra Gates on Oxford Street are what you're looking for. There is limited parking available for those who insist on driving.

If you want to impress your new date, take him or her to the Moonlight Cinema. The relaxing atmosphere, combined with the beauty of Centennial Park and a movie will certainly help the sparks fly.

Very informative write up Maz, you make it very tempting. It's good to read one that's included so much detail that there is really no need to look else where.

I went with some friends this week and a great time watching 'We Bought A Zoo'. Going mid week was a great way to break up the week and a great way to relax. The bean bags were so comfortable, but watch out the bats.
