I love trying new food and new restaurants. My other passions are Origami www.weekendnotes.com/origami-classes-japan-australia-friendship-association/ and Pokémon www.weekendnotes.com/pokemon-center-tokyo/

The Montezuma's on Adelaide's Melbourne Street is part of a nationwide franchise that specialises in Mexican food. The dishes here are usually prepared mild but those who desire something spicier can order their dishes hot or with extra hot sauce. Many of their dishes can be ordered gluten-free, allowing those that cannot eat wheat-based products to enjoy their dishes.

A good choice for a light meal, the shredded beef in the Tacos that we ordered was juicy with a delectable smoky flavour. The salsa balanced out the taste of the beef with its refreshing flavour and the sour cream tied everything together. We asked for the sour cream to be served separately because my father is not a fan of the taste. You can choose either hard or soft tacos for the dish. The hard tacos provide texture while the soft tacos make the dish less messy to consume.

One of my favourite Mexican dishes, the Chicken Enchiladas had flavoursome filling with the topping of tomato sauce and melted cheese complementing it nicely. We thought the portion size could be a bit bigger to make it a more satisfying dish. Served with the dish were Spanish rice, some corn chips and frijoles, a dish made with whipped beans.

While the chicken in their Chicken Mexican was juicy, we thought a bit more of the Mexican sauce used to glaze the chicken would have made the dish more enjoyable. The dish came with the same accompaniments as the Chicken Enchiladas, albeit without the corn chips.

For dessert, we decided to give the Mexican Date Cake a try. The syrup topping can be a bit sweet for some but the cake was very moist with a bit of crunch from the walnuts in the syrup. To best enjoy the dish, it is advisable to have each mouthful of cake with some of the vanilla ice cream to cut through its rich flavour.

We enjoyed a free complimentary main by using our Entertainment Book voucher. The décor of the restaurant is very colourful with lots of Mexican paraphernalia, giving the place a relaxed and casual atmosphere.
