Mon Komo started out as a recent addition to the beautiful Redcliffe esplanade facing the bay overlooking the islands from Bribie to Stradbroke. And only a couple of weeks ago the hotel/resort introduced a swanky new hang out for locals and visitors and after a few weeks of text messages from friends boasting about how great this new Redcliffe tavern was, I decided to go along and check it out myself.

It was a perfect Sunday afternoon the day we decided to head for lunch at the new hot spot. We walked in past the attractive and effective water feature to find the entire establishment packed. And the attire were not board shorts and stubbies either. Ladies wore their best even though it was a lazy end of weekend afternoon and even the guys had made an effort. As we walked in to be seated, I caught glimpses of tables loaded with plates of delicious looking food and wine bottles. The bar ahead of us was long showcasing a sea of twinkling alcohol bottles with an impressive cocktail list awaiting us.

The friendly manager explained to us there are two sections of the venue, both with a different menu. The restaurant seemed a little stuffy and mostly inside serving mains, whereas the outdoor lounge area served more tapas, pizzas and nibbles. We chose the lounge bar outside with trendy decor and huge lounges for us to sit and catch the sea breeze. We took our seats and instantly relaxed in the sunshine as we ordered our wedges and chicken pizza. There was a swell, so we could hear the waves crashing on the rocks across the road as we sipped on our beers and took in the scenery.

As well as sea breezes, cold beer and a relaxing but sophisticated atmosphere, we looked above and the sky above was scattered with adrenalin junkie sky divers, adding to our already great afternoon.

Our meals arrived swiftly and our wedges were loaded with sour cream and fried bacon bits, tasting better than the traditional plate of wedges you may find at other taverns or restaurants. And our creamy chicken pizza was infused with melted brie - my favourite cheese.

That evening, as we were on holidays, we decided to venture back to the indoors restaurant for dinner. The decor inside was overly impressive, keeping with the ocean theme with giant ropes hanging stylishly from the ceiling and large windows. We sipped on more cocktails than we did eat food, but my partner said his pina coloda type cocktail was one of the best he tasted. Fluffy, creamy and strong.

Overall, our visit to Mon Komo lounge bar and restaurant was fantastic and we will be visiting many more times. If you live in Redcliffe you must try it. Or if you are a city dweller, jump in that car and head on up here for that 'Gold Coast' feel lunch by the bay.
