Is it a cafe? Is it a kids' designer boutique? Is it a retro toy shop with a wide range of kitsch toys that you know you just have to have? Well, in Cowes, is all three and more.

The toys come from a time when kids were boys and girls, when there was no such thing as Gen Y,Z etc. and toys were well-made and sturdy. From a time when everyone had a pedal car and a spinning top and played with big metal toy cars that took two of your little hands to lift. These are toys that are real, toys that are timeless, toys that my children will pass down to their children.

The clothes are what could be considered impossibly beautiful, the sort of clothes that an exorbitant price cannot deter from wanting to see our daughter in. These are perfect and patterned and prissy, cute and cosy couture. These are clothes that you know you have to have.

And then there's the food. Like everything else here, it's exquisitely packaged, wearing with pride the care taken in its preparation. At Molly Moo & Tilly Bear, there's an attention to detail in this place that permeates everything, from the hand-made toys to the labels on the cupcakes, everything here is lovingly created. This attention to detail extends to the reading material. Vintage magazines are a fascinating accompaniment to coffee and cake, careful with the soup though. The coffee also offers more than just convenience. There's something just right about the smell of coffee in this place.

If you're feeling a bit bolder or wanting to connect with your inner attention seeker, there's the trellised eating area outside. Sharing the pavement with the majestic Phillip Island Cypress Pines and with Western Port Bay a lazy stroll away, it's a perfect place for a coffee and cupcake and to watch the people of Phillip Island make their way past.

Sit out here long enough sipping your coffee and devouring the second, third, fourth cupcake if you're so bold and you'll understand why the penguins choose these parts to come ashore.

is located at 40b Thompson Avenue, Cowes, Phillip Island and here is their website address .
