Enter a miniature world of intricate plastic models at the
Model Expo 2010, which will showcase the work of plastic modelers around Australia, including those built painstakingly from scratch. The Model Expo is held as a competition over Saturday June 12 to June 13, followed by a large swap and sell on Monday June 14 where you can purchase a variety of modeling kits.
For those who haven't heard,
plastic modeling involves the construction of miniature replicas of popular subjects such as military tanks, aircrafts, cars and ships. While these are the main categories on display, subject matter varies, with anything from science fiction spaceships to famous people being modeled. Modelers are also welcome to enter in dioramas and vignettes which recreate a scene or story using numerous models. You can see some of the past work in the

This year the Model Expo will be held at Sandown Entertainment Centre at
Sandown Racecourse. Entry fees are $10 for adults and $5 for children and concession, with special rate for families. To get there by train take the Cranbourne or Pakenham lines to Sandown Station which will bring you directly opposite the racecourse. The Model Expo begins from 11am to 5pm On Saturday and 10am to 5pm on Sunday, with the winners announced on Monday.
