If you're looking for a hidden gem up in Perth's northern suburbs then look no further than the Sunday carvery at the Mindarie Marina Function Centre.

Having recently written about the forthcoming Sunday carvery sessions at the beautifully located Mindarie Function Centre, I simply had to try it out for myself, and am happy to report back that my expectations were happily exceeded.

The Food

This is a carvery feast of epic proportions featuring soups, entrees, roasts, main meals, desserts, cheeseboard and coffee. There's something for everyone, and any best intentions you have for eating in moderation quickly slip away, at the very least by the time you get to the dessert buffet.

To commence your dining pleasure, you can kick start your meal with a choice of soup or seafood chowder, with some crusty bread rolls, or you can head straight to the entrée selection. Choose from a selection of salad items, including a creamy potato salad, coleslaw, feta cheeses and a mound of delectable prawns. There's some tasty dressings to accompany your salads and as you can help yourself, you can choose exactly what you want to eat.

After your entree, you move onto the main event, which for most people will be the roast meats and vegetable portion of the dining. When we visited, we got to choose from roast turkey, beef and pork and you could have as little or as much as you wanted of the meats which are hand carved for you. I tried the turkey and the beef, which were both cooked beautifully. I really enjoyed the selection of condiments to go with the meal too, so with your pork you can feast on crackling and apple sauce, with your beef there was horseradish and a great array of other choices too. The home made gravy is a great treat for your meal too.

To accompany the meat(s) of your choice, you can help yourself to a wide selection of vegetables and side dishes. There's plenty of choices with particular highlights being the yorkshire puddings and the roasted veggies. If you like your yorkshire puddings high and light, and your potatoes crispy then you've come to the right place.

If roast meats aren't your thing, then there are some other main items to choose from including fish, curry and pasta.

The dessert buffet is where many dining guests will kiss goodbye to their dieting willpower, and indulge in the treats on offer. It's sumptuous catering for a myriad of palates and preferences.

There's a fruit salad for the healthy and strong willed amongst us, but for everyone else there are some great choices including sherry trifles, miniature cakes and pies, chocolate mousse, petit fours in addition to some great hot puddings which you can serve with fresh vanilla custard.

The Experience

The food is the real highlight here, with great attention to detail on all of the elements that I got to taste. So often you go out for lunch and one element of the meal lets the whole experience down, but with this carvery, all elements were well cooked, well presented and there was a great choice on offer, which I think would cater well to a dining party of mixed tastes. The function centre itself is a beautiful room to enjoy your carvery experience, with wait staff proving helpful and engaging without appearing to hurry you through your dinner. I took my two young sons with me, and would definitely recommend this Sunday lunch for families where you are welcomed whole heartedly.

This carvery is held every Sunday from 11.30am until 2.30pm within the Mindarie Marina Function Centre overlooking the beautiful Indian Ocean waters. To book your table call 9305 9305.
