It seems like I just might have hit the coffee (and cake) jackpot at this cafe earlier today.
Mezina is a large cafe situated in Smith Street in Collingwood, and is a great place to break any new years resolution concering chocolate, just for a moment. And why not; great service and great company. Life is short.
Situated in a Victorian terrace building, the ambience is spacious and beautiful and the design is quite elegant. My latte was just right with just one sugar. It was great to sit on one of their comfy black couches, near the entrance, for coffee and cake. For only $3 a pop, my regular latte represented great value for money, and a small chocolate cake (like a chocolate kiss) was thrown in with each coffee purchase. Rich and decadent who could not resist. And a jug of water to share was needed to cope with the strong coffee and rich chocolate cakes.
Furthermore, a slice of chocolate cake can be purchased for only $1 extra, so overall for two regular coffees (with two chocolate kisses thrown in) and a slice of chocolate cake, at $7.50 it really is great value for money.
As a bonus, just after paying, I was fortunate enough to be handed another coffee; this time in a take away cup when the cute waiter said he "made it by mistake." I was the lucky recipient, and that coffee kept me great company the moment I got home from my short tram ride back into the city. Talk about abundance, what a great day, and an establishment I will have no hesitation in recommending to others and returning to as a (somewhat lucky) customer another time.
